Built By Faith

Have you ever had the blessing of being on the receiving end of encouragement? This person could be a friend, a parent, a coach, a teacher, or that special someone to tell you how much they believe in you. It takes faith to believe in something. Jesus has faith in us. The Bible proves His undeniable faith in these earthly vessels called humans. When Paul penned a letter to the church of Galatians, he reminded us of this fact with this poignant statement, “….the life I now live in the flesh I live by the FAITH of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Really! Read it one more time! Is it true? Yes, it is. Everything that Jesus accomplished and taught was due to His faith in mankind. That is AMAZING!

It means a lot to have the faith of our earthly family and friends; but, even more the faith of our Heavenly Father who gave His only son for us. Why would Jesus voluntarily lay down his life for us if He did not believe that we could run this Christian race? He knew it was a win- win situation. Jesus is our personal CHEERLEADER. No matter how bad we mess things up, He is in Heaven cheering us on. You can do this!! You can make it! He makes intercession to the Father on our behalf…no matter the transgression (Isa. 53:12). It takes complete confidence and trust to believe in a world of imperfect human beings whose stubbornness, weakness, and disobedience has been apparent since the beginning of time. Of course, we are taught to rely on Christ Jesus because “the just shall live by faith” (Gal. 3:11). It is His justification of us that makes our Faith Walk possible. For we all have been given “a measure of faith” (Rom. 12:3). That measure is of faith is Jesus, the one called FAITHFUL and TRUE (Rev. 19:11). Amen!

This blessed assurance that we are given at the beginning, will faithfully meet us at the finish line. Jesus is the “author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). Imagine the “Heavenly Referee” standing at the starting line beside us and firing the shot that allows us to participate in the race. The Lord himself runs ahead of us and marks the date and time at the finish line. He then returns to run along beside us in the form of an encourager. As we round the first turn, He is there to offer us a cup of living water. Just when you feel as though you cannot make it another lap, you look to your side and He’s there holding your hand.

Every runner knows that the last lap is the hardest lap of all. Your legs hurt. And, both feet burn with each strike against the pavement. Each beat of your heart feels as though your chest is going to cave in. Every breath taken is a struggle. The sweat pours from all areas of your body. It drains into your eyes, your ears, and your mouth. The rapid loss of water makes you feel weak…exhausted. The body screams, Stop!! As you push the mind to control the body, a figure appears ahead waiving the VICTORY flag. There is a realization that the end is near. The race is almost over. A surge of supernatural energy takes control. It is the Lord and Savior carrying you to the finish line. As you cross the threshold, He smiles at you. He whispers, “Good job, you made it. Well done my good and faithful soldier. Now enter into my rest” (Mat. 25:21). The struggle is now over, but it was well worth it. With a grateful heart, you receive your reward. Thank you, Lord! Great is thy FAITHFULNESS.
