2016: Pursuit of Dreams

Happy New Year to All!! What a blessing it is to be able to share another season of life.  Each new season includes a new set of promises and potential.  We all look forward to the unfolding of 2016 with patient endurance and expectant hope.  What goals have you set for 2016?  “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” (Tony Robbins) Are you prepared to put your heart into it?

Many people start the new year with resolutions…you know the usual. The list starts something like this:  Exercise more, lose a few pounds, travel more, spend more time with family, save more, go back to school, think positive, save for a vacation, take up a new hobby, clean out my closets, be a better friend,  eat healthier, etc.  The list can go on.  In reality the list looks good within self, as well as, the good intentions behind the list.  But, we all know that it takes more than good intentions to make a lifestyle change.  It takes motivation and some serious goal setting to intentionally change any habit.  Unfortunately, many plans have a short shelf life without motivation and a map.

Change is strategic. Let’s face it, change can be scary! It requires a stepping out into unfamiliar territory…the unknown.  Writing down your goals is only the first step.  The map is when your goals are broken down into small achievable steps.  There is a quote that asks, “How do you eat an elephant?” “You eat him one bite at a time.” Goals set too high lead to frustration.  Goals set too low lead to mediocrity.  Aim at a level that compels hard work, but includes a possibility of success.

During the change process things will start to feel uncomfortable.  Many times setbacks will occur and doubt will start to creep in.  At this point, we all get tempted to throw in the towel.  Quitting is not an option.  Have a backup plan for days like this.  Keep positive people in your life.  A positive friend or relative can help you refocus when things get tough.  Remember, this is your life and you may fall; but, you can get back up again! The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us that, “…the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong…” (Eccl. 9:11).  Sharpen your endurance tools.  Life is a challenge to be met with focus and determination.  So, in the year of 2016, resolve to meet the challenges of life with a smile on your face.  Allow nothing to hinder your progress! Expect great things to happen!

Your dreams are just a goal away!!
